The project explores a simple, functional, and warm architectural approach, responding to the region’s climatic conditions while maintaining a strong focus on spatial quality and connection with nature. The home is arranged on a single level and includes two bedrooms, a full bathroom, a powder room, and a generous open-plan social area combining the kitchen, dining, and living spaces. The proposal is complemented by a covered outdoor terrace with a barbecue and outdoor counter, expanding the living areas and strengthening the connection between the interior and the surrounding landscape. Location Lago Puelo, Chubut, Argentina Project Type Residence Area 110 m² Scope Preliminary Architectural Design · 3D Modeling · Architectural Visualization Project The architecture is organized around a compact and efficient volume, characterized by a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional Patagonian pitched roof. Its geometry responds not only to an aesthetic vision but also to climatic considerations, allowing for efficient drainage of snow and rainfall typical of the region. The material palette combines natural wood cladding on the sheltered interior-facing façades with a graphite-gray metal exterior envelope that wraps around the roof and sides of the house. This approach creates a restrained, contemporary architectural expression while providing durability, low maintenance, and an appropriate response to the demanding mountain climate. One of the main goals of the project was to strengthen the relationship between the interior and exterior. A fully glazed façade was introduced, using black aluminum frames and large glass panels to bring abundant natural light into the home while framing views of the surrounding landscape. The transparency of this façade makes nature an active part of the spatial experience, bringing forest, sky, and architecture together as a single composition. The social spaces were conceived as flexible and interconnected areas, with the kitchen, dining, and living spaces combined into a single open-plan environment that encourages interaction and makes efficient use of the available space. This spatial continuity extends into the covered terrace, turning it into a true extension of the home and allowing residents to enjoy the surrounding landscape throughout the year. The interior design draws inspiration from contemporary Scandinavian design, emphasizing functionality, clean lines, and warm materials. Light wood furniture, neutral tones, and natural textures create a calm and inviting atmosphere, while large-format porcelain flooring provides visual continuity, durability, and easy maintenance. Lighting was conceived as a key element in enhancing the spatial quality of the project. During the day, natural light enters through the large glazed openings, constantly transforming the interior spaces. At night, integrated warm lighting highlights the natural character of the wood and creates inviting environments for gathering and relaxation. Casa Lago Puelo proposes a contemporary, human-scaled architecture where simplicity, efficiency, and landscape coexist in balance. Through an honest material palette and a strong connection to its natural surroundings, the project seeks to create a warm and comfortable retreat that responds to the climatic conditions of Patagonia without compromising openness, natural light, or spatial quality.
